5 October 2009
The first phase of the work to the brand new town centre car park being delivered as part of the Sanderson Arcade development in Morpeth has now been completed.
he extension to the Morrisons car park has been brought forward to create more than 100 new town centre car parking spaces right in the heart of the town.
There were previously 214 car parking spaces - that number has now gone up to 336 with the extension covering land where the former Morpeth bus station once stood.
Some of the new car parking spaces are already available and all will be ready by the end of October when the rest of the improvement work has been completed.
Work started on the new car park in August this year as a vital part of the Sanderson Arcade development which opens to the public in November – the new car park opened this week.
Retailers at the town centre development are currently fitting out their new stores ready for the centre’s grand opening.
Spokeswoman for Sanderson Arcade, Amanda Holmes said: “The new car park will deliver more spaces right in the centre of the town where they are needed. We are delighted that this phase of the work has now been completed we are looking forward to the development itself officially opening on November 12th.”
