Morpeth shows its love for the town’s market!

11 May 2015

Morpeth Market is taking part in the high profile, Love Your Local Market 2015 campaign.

The initiative is led by the National Association of British Market Authorities, with full support from the wider markets industry and Government.

The Morpeth Market will be joining more than 900 markets across the country by taking part in Love Your Local Market to raise the profile of the market and encourage new market traders to give the weekly market and monthly Farmers’ Market a try.

Love Your Local Market participants have staged over 11,000 events and this year Morpeth Market will be celebrating the second year of their new look market as well as focussing on the role the market plays in the heart of our communities - not only for a weekly shopping trip but also as an important community asset.

Over the three week long campaign the market will be decorated with Love Your Local Market merchandise including banners, bunting and balloons. There will also be live music throughout the day. Also on the 27th May a special visitor will be attending the Morpeth Market place – Aubrey the pony from Stepney Banks in Newcastle. She will be there to pet and feed throughout the day!

If you haven’t visited the Morpeth market before, why not pop along to see why you need to love your local market and see what it can offer you!

Cllr Ian Swithenbank, policy board member responsible for markets at Northumberland County Council said: “Markets play a very important role in towns like Morpeth, and by working with local partners and traders we now have a busy and thriving regular market here.

“We hope that shoppers will use Love Your Local Market as an opportunity to come along and sample what’s on offer.”

Morpeth Market is managed by Northumberland County Council and Sanderson Arcade, working in partnership with Morpeth Town Council, Morpeth Chamber of Trade and other local organisations through the Morpeth Market working group.

The Morpeth Market is held every Wednesday from 9am – 3pm and the Farmers' Market is the first Saturday of every month.
