New long stay car park opens in Morpeth

2 May 2013

A new long stay car park has opened as part of the new Morrison’s supermarket development in Morpeth town centre.

The first phase of the underground Staithes Lane car park is now open with 120 car parking bays and 12 disabled bays. Another 92 bays will be available once the supermarket opens for business.

The cost will be £2 per day, or by using a Northumberland county-wide parking permit. Parking will be free to disabled residents with a Blue Badge.

The new car park will bring much needed long stay parking back into Morpeth. The County Council will lease the car park from Morrison and will be responsible for its operation, including enforcement of parking regulations.

Medi Parry, Centre Manager at Sanderson Arcade, said: “We are encouraging all our staff here at Sanderson Arcade to use the long stay car park off Staithes Lane now it is completed and open.

“We know from the feedback we receive from our shoppers that parking has been one of their frustrations in the past.

The new long stay car park is really going to make a huge difference in the town and will free up the short stay parking for our shoppers. We are really keen to get the message that the car park is now open and operational.”
