KEVI’s Budding Entrepreneurs take over Morpeth Market

23 November 2015

Students from The King Edward VI School will be taking their budding business ideas to the Morpeth Market on Saturday 28th November.

From 9am till 3pm the young  market traders will be competing in a special Youth Trader Challenge Christmas Market for the chance to win £300 to put back in to their businesses.

Students from King Edwards VI School in the town have been bidding for one of the 20 stalls which are available at the special Youth Trader Market and members of the successful youth companies with the most original business plans have been selected to join the market!

The initiative has been a collaboratively organised venture between the team at Sanderson Arcade and Morpeth Market working with The King Edwards VI School, Morpeth.

The stalls will have a vast array of gifts, made or sourced by the young entrepreneurs – ranging from chocolate and cupcakes to jewellery, textiles, crafts and cards.

Judging the stalls on the day will be local businessman Richard Rutherford, owner ofsuccessful Rutherfords department store. Mr Rutherford will be joined by Alison Byard, Morpeth Mayor and Neil Brown, the County wide Markets Manager.

Centre Manager at Sanderson Arcade, Medi Parry, said: “This is the second time that the Youth Trader Christmas Challenge has been put forward to students at the local school and they have come up with some excellent ideas for stalls!’

“We hope everyone in Morpeth will really get behind this and come and support our budding young entrepreneurs and see what they are capable of.”

Lee Walker from the KEVI PTFA who are one of the sponsors of the event said “ The King Edward VI High School Parent Teacher and Friends Association (PTFA) helps the school with fundraising and social activities. Money raised by the PTFA goes to support school projects such as sponsoring the KEVI Christmas Market, which encourages creativity and entrepreneurial skills."

Victoria Najafi, Student Voice, Leadership & Enrichment Co-ordinator "Many thanks to KEVI PTFA for their generosity in sponsoring the KEVI Christmas Market this year. We hope the community enjoys some festive shopping courtesy of our fantastically creative students. Many thanks also to The Sanderson Arcade for the wonderful opportunity."

Morpeth Market is managed by Northumberland County Council and Sanderson Arcade, working in partnership with Morpeth Town Council, Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade and other local organisations through the Morpeth market working group.
